Projects
'Read On' Project
The 'Read On' project was successfully completed in January 2001. It produced inter-generational reading materials and included information on World War II, the Millennium Alphabet and poster, booklets on rag-rug making and an anthology of memories from different generations entitled 'Remembering Christmas'. Four local schools were involved in the different stages of the project and the results were widely acclaimed.

Aims of the Project
REAP and Manifold Valley CE Primary School, Warslow - working in Partnership: As part of the
national curriculum, some of the children were studying the Second World War. Following contact
with REAP, the Head Teacher, Mr. David Mellor asked if we might be able to work with Miss
Sullivan, the class teacher, on this subject. After meeting it was clear that this was something
which REAP would be able to develop with the support of the Senior Citizens, who met on a
regular basis at the school. REAP were able to organise the opportunity for the Senior Citizens'
firsthand knowledge and experience of the Second World War to be shared with the children
and later to develop a written record of local memories which would be of value and interest
to others as well as the children.
What did REAP and the Senior Citizens do? REAP talked to the Senior Citizens and asked who would like to be involved by:
- Writing down their memories
- Talking to members of REAP (who recorded and transcribed their memories)
- Talking to the children
- Being interviewed by a small group of children
