Projects
Rural Crafts Revival - Hedge Laying
WHAT SHOULD YOU EXPECT OUT OF YOUR TRAINING?
Your training will be an exciting range of activities, taking place predominantly outdoors and almost in all weathers! Some of the things you will learn and undertake includes:
Study areas:
- Appreciate the functions of hedges
- Be aware of differing hedge species
- Care for and maintain hedgelaying tools
- Be aware of the need for correct safety procedures
- Undertake basic hedgelaying practices
- Be aware of career opportunities in hedgelaying
Practical activities:
As with all training areas, you will undertake your training on a 'real' site, and therefore what you work on will be ideally of a permanent nature and therefore your hard work will be available to be seen by all (where possible) and will go towards the creation and/or maintenance of wildlife habitats. Most of this training will be practical, and will involve you laying a stretch/section of hedge. You will be taught all of the appropriate techniques and safe handling procedures
Additional activities:
Whilst undertaking the five-day course, one of these days will be a 'complimentary' day. These days are road-trip styled days and are really exciting and funand offer lots of new learning opportunities. You will be driven around as a group, to meet lots of artists, businesses and organisations, who through their work and activities will demonstrate a range of career pathways and training opportunities unknown to you.
You will be provided with your own camera and diary during your course, so that you can document your own training and experiences.
