Parwich Arts Development

"A Celebration of Rural Life and Landscape"

REAP has been approached by the people of Parwich to lead in the development and management of this project. Following extensive local consultation, Parwich now has a well researched and locally owned Village Action Plan which this project keys into. This 2 year scheme has discrete parts feeding from Year 1 into Year 2. A capacity building approach is essential as the village has had little previous arts provision despite there being a significant number of professional artists living there.

Aims:

Over the duration of the project will work with Parwich History Society and the people of Parwich to produce a range of arts products which each feed into one another.

2004 - 2005:

Booklet: Research and produce a draft of a booklet of walks for the Parwich area. The booklet will provide the contextual information to 7 key sites that will be the focus of a series of creative workshops. The final draft of the book will include images, words and ideas arising from these workshops and all other elements of the project.

Reminiscences: Intergenerational creative reminiscence workshops to gather information, memories and associations relating to the key sites from across the community.

Artist in School Placement: Parwich School. A professional artist will work with the staff and pupils of Parwich School interpreting the relevance and meaning of the identified sites through visual art and creative writing.

'Legible Landscape' Series: Professional artists will lead a series of site specific creative workshops, (producing poetry, performance, and visual art) of the identified sites. Products of these workshops will form the basis of an Ephemeral Art Trail around the sites.

Parwich Art Group: This new art group will produce art work in response to the 7 sites to produce new art work for an exhibition in 2005 which will also include products from the Artist in School placement and displays from the walks (maps, old and current photographs, historical information) etc.

2005 - 2006:

Open Studios: Local artists open their studios to the public.

Artist in residence: A nationally recruited professional artist will take up a residency in the village. Open studio, preview nights, talks and workshops will be included in the residency activity with a final exhibition of original work produced by the artist in response to the life and landscape of the area

Publish Final Booklet: Combining all elements of the project the booklet will be published and sold in the area to generate father funding for subsequent project. Additional funding will be sought to produce a catalogue relating to all the artworks in the project - as appropriate.
