Projects
The Big Picture
REAP will be launching their major 'Big Picture' campaign on May 1st 2008, which will follow on from our hugely successful photography based projects 'Personal Expressions' and 'Capture a Moment', both of which openly encouraged new audiences to learn photography with professionals. 'Personal Expressions' was an extensive photography project working with Derbyshire Young Farmers Clubs, allowing them to creatively express their lives and issues affecting them, resulting in a the creation of a touring exhibition of 45 framed works, a professional exhibition catalogue and as a legacy to the project, a permanent exhibition of work across various public venues across Derbyshire . 'Capture a Moment', was a similar activity, that did what its name suggests and encouraged audiences to document moments within their lives.
Our Big Picture project will be a complimentary blend of these projects, we will work with a wide range of groups, so as to encourage people to photographically document their lives, using a range of different photographic media.
We will be delivering a multi-stranded approach to gathering and encouraging participation in the project; we will:-
- The Big Picture project, aims to create the biggest photo album in the West Midlands. Everyone can create and add their favourite pictures – family, friends, local landmarks, even your pets and to tell the stories behind them. As part of our 'Big Picture' project, we will be staging a number of photography workshops, the first of which will take place on Saturday 24th May, 10 - 3pm, at 'Tittesworth Water' to coincide with the 'Big Open Weekend'. Artist Sophie Powell will be available to demonstrate new and experimental forms of photography and allow people to use rare but affordable types of cameras. The public will have privileged use of these cameras, with many of the photo's taken during the day going on the 'Big Picture' website but will also go on display at our forthcoming 'Strawberry Moon Festival'. The festival will have a 'Big Picture' photography arts area and will continue to encourage people to take photo's over the course of the weekend and will also offer the opportunity to try their hand at experimental photography techniques and a wide range of cameras and processes.
- We will additionally encourage an 'open submission' programme whereby young people can send in or email their photographs to REAP that represent their views of 'their' Midlands, where we will work with them to upload their images to the Big Picture website.
- As part of our forthcoming 'Strawberry Moon Festival'; a weekend community arts festival taking place at Tittesworth Water in Meerbrook, near Leek on June 28th & June 29th 2008, we will have a 'Big Picture' area within one of our arts marquees, which will present the work to date that REAP has generated as part of the project, and encourage people to take photo's over the course of the weekend, using disposable and Polaroid camera's, digital and traditional cameras techniques and processes.
