Advocate the Artist Series
Targeting practicing artists and emergent arts groups in the area, this series of networking, knowledge and skills sharing workshops aimed to:
- Broaden the network of artists currently known to REAP
- Develop the arts infrastructure in a particularly isolated and deprived rural area
- Validate, share and develop good practice in the region
- Support artists through peer activity and exchanges
- Link artists to each other, arts organisations and communities that wish to employ them
- Identify training needs
- Provide continuing professional development opportunities in association with other training providers.
The series commenced with an 'Open Agenda' workshop. Using 'Open Space Technology' - designed by the 'Centre for Creative Communities'. This process engaged participants in defining the issues most crucial to their current practice. This then informed the content and approach of subsequent workshops. Issues covered throughout the year, included focus upon key areas of work for the region, for example:
- The Rural Context and new Rural Arts Strategy
- Arts & Rural Health
- Arts and Rural Regeneration
- Art & The Environment
Partners Included: College of the Peak, Arts in the Peak, Creeping Toad, Borderland Voices and Derbyshire Specialist Health Promotion Service.
As a lasting legacy of this project, REAP are still developing a database of artists and do still occasionally stage networking events for artists on its 'books'. If you are new to REAP, and are interested in being included in REAP's database of artists, please contact us using our enquiry form.
