The recent issues reported at the BBC and other companies highlight the current trend for more companies to move out of London and into other regional centres. Some companies are now making the decision that for cost and other reasons they will up sticks and move the whole company – and employees – to cities such as Birmingham and Manchester.
However, there are problems inherent in such a major decision and any company who thinks it was as easy as moving everything up there with a removal company Birmingham is likely to be sadly mistaken.
Moving a whole company to another city is a major decision and while it could have cost benefits in the long run, the short term is likely to be very painful. Many people just do not want to leave London as their whole life is there. The kids are settled into school, the friends and social life is there and they probably have a mortgage on the house there too.
The company is likely to have to pay a significant amount in sweeteners to persuade people to move away and there may also be redundancies involved which will only add to the cost.
Cost savings may not actually kick in until several years down the line and the whole move is likely to be a painful process, so don't think it will be an easy ride.
